The Workplace Transparency Act took effect January 1, 2020.  Under this Act, all Illinois employers will have to provide sexual harassment training for their employees.  The Illinois Department of Human Rights is developing a free training course (for more info, visit, or employers can opt to buy courses from a private company. Businesses will have until the end of 2020 to provide harassment training; however, new employees will have to be trained within 90 days of their start date.

Also, this Act amends the Illinois Human Rights Act by defining “harassment” to include harassment of non-employees in the workplace and expands the definition of workplace to include areas outside the physical location to which an employee is assigned. 

Non-disclosure agreements and other documents intended to keep employees silent will be limited under the new law.
